Ochoa became an astronaut in 1991. She has spent over 484 hours in space
on two spacecraft.
In 1993, Ochoa flew aboard STS-56. The crew studied the Earth's
atmosphere for 9 days. In 1994, she flew aboard STS-66. During this
flight, the crew studied the Sun and how it affects the Earth's climate.
