The Space Shuttle Discovery lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on
October 29th at 2:19 p.m. EST. The sky was clear and the weather was
great. This was the America's 123rd
manned space mission.
A huge crowd came to watch
John Glenn go
back into space. This is his second space flight in 36 years. People
said there there were a lot more people watching this launch there there
normally are. Also the launch was broadcast on many major television
stations.
The crew for the nine-day mission consists of: Curtis L. Brown as
commander; Steven W. Lindsey as pilot; Stephen K. Robinson, Scott E.
Parazynski, and Pedro Duque as mission specialists; and Chiaki Mukai and
Glenn as Payload Specialists.
