There are many different kinds of plants
. Some have big leaves. Some have small leaves. Some even have flowers. All plants make their own food.
When sunlight hits the leaves of a plant, photosynthesis happens. This is how plants make food. Photosynthesis means that plants can turn
water, carbon dioxide from the air, and sunlight into sugars.
These sugars are the food the plant uses for life. If the sugar made by all the world's plants was put in one place, within three years the pile would be bigger than Mount Everest! (Plants and Fungi, Robert Snedden) That's a lot of sugar!
Photosynthesis of plants is very important. It also makes the oxygen you and all animals need to breathe.
