Shannon Lucid
Shannon Lucid is an American astronaut who was born on January 14, 1943,
in China.
Before she became an astronaut, Lucid worked as a biologist in Oklahoma.
Lucid became an astronaut in 1979. She has spent over 223 days in space
on five spaceflights. She holds the record for the most time spent in
space by any woman.
In 1985, Lucid made her first spaceflight aboard STS-51G. In 1989,
she flew aboard STS-34. This mission put the Galileo spacecraft into orbit.
Lucid made her third spaceflight aboard STS-43 in 1991. The crew
put a satellite into space. In 1993, Lucid flew aboard STS-58.
Lucid made her fifth spaceflight aboard the Russian Space Station Mir in
1996. She spent 188 days aboard Mir.
