Neil Armstrong
Neil Armstrong is an American astronaut who was born in Ohio in 1930.
Before entering the space program, he was a pilot for the U.S. Navy and Air
Force, flying over 200 different kinds of aircraft, such as gliders,
helicopters, and jets.
In 1966, Neil was command pilot of the Gemini 8 mission, which
performed the first docking of two vehicles in space. Then, in July of 1969,
he was commander of the Apollo 11 lunar mission and made history by becoming
the first person to walk on the moon.
Armstrong's famous words from space include, "The eagle has landed"
and "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
