We've Arrived at the Field Site
Greetings from Arica!
We are busy getting ready for the first flight tomorrow. This morning we had a briefing about airport safety and rules to follow when accessing the plane. Then, there were containers of supplies to unpack. We also removed our instrument from the aircraft. In the photo Taehyoung is removing the cloud water collector operated by Colorado State University (later I will post another picture of the instrument so that you can see what it actually looks like).
The CSU team (Taehyoung and myself) arrived several days ago to begin setting up and unpacking boxes that we had shipped. The C-130 airplane and our instrument arrived yesterday afternoon. The collector will be removed after each flight and the samples will be collected. In addition, the collector must be cleaned after each flight to make sure the samples are not contaminated. It is a lot of work for such a fairly simple instrument.
Until next time,
Katie
