End of an Exciting Flight

This photograph was taken at the end of the first C-130 flight sampling Pocket of Open Cells (POCs) regions within the stratus clouds that are more open. They have interested cloud scientists because it is unclear how they form and how they keep themselves going. They may rely on completely different cloud physics from the surrounding stratus clouds.

A lot of data on POC aerosol and cloud properties was collected on this flight that will help us develop a picture of what is happening, which is not yet textbook science. This photograph shows Rob Wood, the mission scientist, at the end of the long flight. Hopefully some of the excitement and pride in the successful flight is being conveyed here. The clock shows the Greenwich Mean Time - 13 GMT is 10:00 AM local time, or 7 hours after our 3:00 AM takeoff time.
