A Walk in Space - Preparing to Leave the ISS

The first humans took their place onboard the International Space Station (ISS) in November of 2000. That was crew one. Now crew three is onboard the ISS. Crew three is made up of Commander Frank Culbertson
, Pilot Vladimir Dezhurov and Flight Engineer Mikhail Tyurin. Crew four will replace crew three in December of 2001. Crew four is made up of Daniel W. Bursch
, Yuri I. Onufrienko and Carl E. Walz
Before the third crew departs from the ISS, they will do something very exciting! Two of the members of crew three will put on their special space suits so they can leave the ISS! This is called a space walk. The space walk will take place on November 12, 2001. The astronauts who leave the ISS will be connecting wires between parts of the ISS and they will be adding equipment to the outside of the space station.
