Recent Solar Wind Observations

The solar wind plays a vital role in transfering the effects of solar activity to the Earth's space environment. The density, speed, pressure, and temperature of the solar wind upstream of the Earth as well as the magnitude and direction of the interplanetary magnetic field all influence the impact of solar disturbances on the Earth's magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere. The clock dial plots below, provided by Rice University, show the values of solar wind parameters upstream of the Earth at L1.
