Today's Highlighted Poem
by Darisha, age 17, California, U.S.
The park awaited us on a school night
As I rushed to complete homework,
Grabbed sandals from the front porch,
And hopped onto my purple tricycle.
I pedaled far ahead of Mommy but Found our park different than by day:
Slides empty, swings empty! I felt
Fright at night as oak trees wobbled,
Wind whistled, and clouds growled;
Mother arrived, saw my face so pale.
What's wrong, Dear? she wondered.
Pointing to the dark dome, I cried,
See the bears in the sky!
