Poetry and Pictures - Weather

Isaac Levitan painted the landscapes of the Russian countryside during the late nineteenth century. This painting of his is called After the Rain. There are two types of clouds that make rain - cumulonimbus and nimbostratus. Do the clouds that Levitan painted look like one of these types? The broken pieces of low clouds that Levitan has painted are called "scud". They happen before or after a rainfall.

Today's Highlighted Poem

What a day
by Annacely, age 14, New Mexico, USA

The sky is sad so am I,
No kites to fly.
No kids are out to play,
but only for today. I wish for the sun to come
So we can have some fun.
I know the sun he will,
come back some day!
