Traveling to Base Camp
We are almost at Base Camp for Annapurna I. We have been traveling for the last several days through some of the most beautiful and most remote mountain terrain. After leaving Annapurna IV we traveled over the main Annapurna hiking trail into the town of Lete. From Lete we left the main trail and our now crossing land that people haven't visited for over a year! It is very remote. The rare and shy Snow Leopard inhabits this area and we would love to catch a glimpse of one. Within two or three days we should reach our Base Camp, located directly under Annapurna I at about 14,000 feet above sea level.
Tonight we are camped next to a beautiful river in what is considered to be the deepest river gorge on Earth - the Miristi Khola Gorge. We can see the top 3rd of Annapurna and it looks VERY windy. Hopefully the winds will settle once we arrive in Base Camp!
