Annapurna IV Summary Part 2 of 3
Hi! Here is part 2 of 3 of our summary report from Annapurna IV...
PART II - Camp 1 to Camp 2
After several days of rest and acclimatization to the altitude at Camp 1, we left for Camp 2. Camp 2 is located at just over 19,000 feet, and we hoped it would take about six hours to reach it. The route to Camp 2 is completely on snow and ice. The last section of the route required climbing on steep ice that is nearly vertical. This year we encountered very deep, loose snow, often called sugar snow, and complete blizzard conditions. So instead of going directly to Camp 2, we made an intermediate camp at about 18,500 feet. We stayed here two days before finally moving up to Camp 2.
