John Swigert
John Swigert was an American astronaut who was born on August 30, 1931,
in Colorado.
Before he became an astronaut, Swigert was a Air Force pilot. He logged
over 8000 hours of flight time.
Swigert became an astronaut in 1966. He has spent over 142 hours in
space on one spaceflight. In 1970, Swigert flew aboard the unlucky
Apollo 13. One of the tanks on the command module exploded. The crew
used the lunar module as a lifeboat. They made it back to Earth safely.
