How can a neutrino be detected if it has no mass and does not interact with normal matter?
Neutrinos are very tiny particles that are hard to find. They only follow
the weak nuclear force, which is
smallest of all the forces. Scientists have had a hard time finding
neutrinos even though they are everywhere.
Neutrinos can pass through anything--even the Earth--without much of a
problem. Neutrinos even pass through the equipment scientists use to
detect them. It takes a lot of neutrinos passing through a detector for
scientists to see just one.
