SOHO Catches Glimpse of the Sun's "Far Side"
News story originally written on June 23, 1999
Scientists are using a new satellite to view the far side of the Sun. They can now find solar storms days before they reach Earth! The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) satellite is doing things we could never do from Earth.
SOHO also took pictures of the largest shadow ever seen. The Comet Hale-Bopp had a really long tail. It casted a shadow on the sky that was over 150 million kilometers long! Imagine trying to jump on your shadow if it was that long!
