Where Has All The Ozone Gone?
News story originally written on February 27, 2001
You may have heard of ozone. There is
good ozone and bad ozone. Good ozone is found in
the stratosphere region of the Earth's atmosphere and bad ozone is found in
the troposphere. Good ozone protects us from harmful rays from the Sun. Bad ozone causes pollution.
The Ozone Hole over Antarctica means that that area is missing good ozone. Scientists flew a plane over some parts of the northern hemisphere and found that the bad ozone was missing. This isn't anything to be worried about. But, scientists know there is a lot more to learn about the atmosphere before we'll have everything figured out!
