At the conclusion of the activity, students will put their maps together as shown at the left and get a sense of the larger landscape.

Land Plan Challenge

Welcome to the Land Plan Challenge!

In this classroom activity students use maps to plan towns, being conscious of water resources, and then learn how their town fits into the larger community. There are two versions of this activity available from Windows to the Universe. While both versions have students go through the same learning experience, one version involves fewer, larger student groups and bigger maps, while the other involves more, smaller student groups and smaller maps. The version of the activity with larger maps requires more time for preparation.
