Poetry and Pictures - Weather

In the mid-1850s, American artist George Inness was hired by a railroad company to create paintings that showed the railroad’s growth. This picture, called The Lackawanna Valley, shows the railroad in the wilderness of Scranton, PA and it also includes a low uniform layer of stratus clouds.

Today's Highlighted Poem

by Cherrie, age 12, Kansas

The sun shines through the haze of clouds
And bathes the land in sunshine bright
It sends its rays through lacy boughs
Of trees still eager for the light
