Robert Scott
Robert Falcon Scott was an Antarctic explorer. He was born in 1868 in England. He left home at the age of 13 to join the Royal Navy. Can you imagine joining the Navy at age 13?!?
In 1910, Scott and his group of four other men left on a trip to try and reach the South Pole. In 1912, they did it! Unfortunately, they found out that they came in second in a race to reach the South Pole. Roald Amundsen and his group got there first.
Scott and his group became tragic heroes of the age of Antarctic exploration.
Unfortunately, the group died while returning from the pole. When the news of their tragic death reached England, Scott's group became national heroes.
