Donn Eisele
Donn Eisele was an American astronaut who was born on June 30, 1930, in Ohio.
Before he became an astronaut, Eisele was a test pilot for the Air
Force. He has logged over 4200 hours of flight time.
Eisele became an astronaut in 1963. He has spent over 264 hours in space
on one spaceflight.
In 1968, Eisele flew aboard Apollo 7. This mission was the first to use
a television camera to broadcast astronaut activities to the Earth. The
astronauts were also the first to catch colds in space!
After Eisele left NASA in 1972, he served as director of the Peace Corps
in Thailand. He died of a heart attack in Tokyo in 1987.
