    Atmospheric CO2 Level Tops 400 ppm

    During the week of May 13th, the CO2 level at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii topped 400 ppm repeatedly. Daily levels of CO2 can vary due to weather, and there are seasonal trends as well. The level of atmospheric greenhouse gases continues to increase, now over 120 ppm since the Industrial Revolution began. For more on the Keeling Curve, see http://keelingcurve.ucsd.edu/. Massive Tornado Outbreak on Tornado Alley

    The week of May 19 brings dozens of tornadoes to Tornado Alley in the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. On May 20th, a massive tornado struck Moore, Oklahoma, devastating communities - destroying over 100 homes and hitting two elementary schools and a hospital - with many casualties and deaths. Our thoughts are with our friends and colleagues suffering from these storms. For more on the May 20th storms, see the NOAA Storm Prediction Center Storm Report.

Windows to the Universe Partnership Opportunities for Education and Outreach

Are you looking for an effective and efficient education and outreach program to supplement your research activities?

Are you struggling to reach a significant audience of students, teachers, and the public?

Scientists and Educators interested in partnering with Windows to the Universe at NESTA should complete our Partnership Application Form, and we will be back in touch with you within a few days.

Partnership with Windows to the Universe, offered by the National Earth Science Teachers Association, provides a very effective way to reach your audience through our existing, trusted platform for Earth and space science education.  With 14 million visits annually, and over 15,000 educators subscribing to our monthly e-newsletter, Windows to the Universe is one of the most popular Earth and space science education websites globally.  Joining the community of geoscience organizations and scientists partnering with Windows to the Universe and NESTA provides a leg-up for your education and outreach efforts, allowing you to leverage our large and diverse audience, our large existing network of educators, and building on our extensive existing content and infrastructure to be able to actually reach your audience.

We offer a number of different opportunities for individual scientists and organizations to partner with the National Earth Science Teachers Association through Windows to the Universe on your education and outreach efforts.  Options include:

Affiliate Partnerships, which provide access to a web page within Windows to the Universe that allows the organization's resources, programs and events to be promoted through the website to our large audience;

Contributing Partnerships, which allow individual scientists to add new content to the website on their field of science, updating existing website content, posting Postcards from the Field from your field expeditions to share the excitement of field research, answering Ask-a-Scientist questions, and assisting in review of submissions by others;

Institutional Partnerships, which provide the benefits of Contributing Partnerships to multiple scientists at the same institution, to share information about multiple programs at their organization;

and

Founding Partnerships, which provide tailored education and outreach support for a limited number of organizations through Windows to the Universe, and includes a seat on the Windows to the Universe Advisory Board.

If you are interested in taking advantage of these activities, please follow the links above for more information, or contact Dr. Roberta Johnson, NESTA Executive Director and Director of Windows to the Universe, for more information at rmjohnsn@nestanet.org or call at 303-929-1606.
