Alison Lehnherr-George
All my life, I have loved science. I decided to go into teaching because I wanted to share that love of science with others. I have a bachelors degree in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from Georgia Tech and a masters degree in Science Education from Georgia State University. I teach sixth grade science at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. This is my second year teaching and I love it! Not only do my students learn about neat and exciting phenomena, but I also learn a lot while teaching. In sixth grade, we learn about earth science and the human body. We have studied earthquakes, volcanoes, and storms. Now we are learning about many different human body systems.
Teaching also provides me with daily opportunities to participate in various research experiences. I am currently working with Georgia Tech on the Antarctic Tropospheric Chemistry Investigartion (ANTCI). We are studying the atmosphere of Antarctica and I might be able to go to Antarctica in 2007!
I live with my husband, Scott, in Marietta, GA with our three cats and a dog! We have our own little zoo. Sam, Rusty, and Penny (the cats) are still getting used to having a dog around. We adopted Molly (the dog) on February 12. She seems to really enjoy the cats except when the go after her tail!
I am going to be working with Dr. Greg Huey on the MILAGRO field campaign in Mexico City. I will be there from March 6 - March 17. I can't wait to show my students all that I am learning. They are excited to see what real field experience really is like.
