The rover traveled around the site of the landing analyzing the composition of the rocks and soil and collecting images. Many rocks on Mars appeared volcanic. The rock shown here contained rounded structures thought to be pebbles. If the rock does contain pebbles, then it may be a conglomerate indicating that Mars has had periods of rock formation and destruction.
