October 27, 2009Mathieu (age 18, Canada) Scientists find out archaea or bacteria on Mars. Are they alive or dead? Is it cells from the Earth? No, no extraterrestrial live has been found. But we keep looking!
October 19, 2009swati (age 14, india) if suppose there are aliens or there is life on other planets so is that they have the same body structure as ours??? or could it be that they have greater intelligence than earth's scientists???and is it be that all aliens (including us) live only on terristrial planets???? Although scientists have been looking for extraterrestrial life for a long time, none have been found, so there is no way to know their body structure.
October 6, 2009swati (age 14, india) isn't there a single, small, little evidence about aliens.i ve read many of your answers but you always answer the same "Scientists are actively looking for extraterrestrial life, and for that they have enrolled the help of many many people through SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). Please, visit the website of SETI@home. So far, these efforts have not been successful." can this be that aliens are like humans but have a different structure? can we say that we are aliens for aliens???? That is exactly my answer, thank you for noting so. The reason I keep offering the same answer is that we haven't been able to identify any kind of extraterrestrial life, but we keep looking for them. So far, there is NO evidence at all of extraterrestrial life.
October 6, 2009shahin (age 14, India) are there any aliens We don't know, but we keep looking! Visite the website of SETI (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) for more information.
October 2, 2009arulvel (age 19, india) any alliance live in other world Although it is very possible that there is life in a planet outside our solar system, and less likely in our system, scientists have been actively looking for extraterrestrial life for a long time, and for that they have enrolled the help of many many people through SETI (). Please, visit the website of SETI@home. So far, these efforts have not been successful.

I belive in scientists reasoning.
August 20, 2009swati (age 14, india) do you really think that there were/are aliens in area 51??? is it true that ufo's or space ships have been found following the astronauts and those ufo's were green in colour? and aliens are mostly like humans with a huge head and round big black eyes with nauzles on the tip of their fingers? and is it true that they only have four fingers???? SIR, PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION,IT IS THE THIRD TIME I AM ASKING THE SAME QUESTION. I apologize for no answering your question early. Although it is very possible that there is life in an planet outside our solar system, and less likely in our system, scientists have been actively looking for extraterrestrial life for a long time, and for that they have enrolled the help of many many people through SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). Please, visit the website of SETI@home. So far, these efforts have not been successful.
May 29, 2009jefferson (age 16, florida) DO ALLIENS REALLY EXISTS? March 11, 2009Chance (age 11, Pennsylvania) Can aliens be found in the thermosphere? Hardly possible. The thermosphere lies between 90 km (56 miles) and 500 and 1,000 km (311 to 621 miles) above our planet. Although the thermosphere is considered part of Earth's atmosphere, the air density is so low in this layer that most of the thermosphere is what we normally think of as outer space. In fact, the most common definition says that space begins at an altitude of 100 km (62 miles), slightly above the mesopause at the bottom of the thermosphere. The space shuttle and the International Space Station both orbit Earth within the thermosphere! Therefore, any kind of extraterrestrial life or activity would be very obvious for the shuttles and ISS crews.
March 6, 2009Joe (age 13, america ohio) if there is not life on other planets why are there so many planets and galaxies and none have lifecause there just has to be life somewhere i just know it The fact that we haven't found life outside our planet does not mean that there is no life somewhere else. We are very limited in sending and receiving messages over very long distances, like those that separate galaxies.
February 25, 2009Destiny (age , ) Although scientists have been looking actively for extraterrestrial life, none have been found (yet).
February 11, 2009Ashley (age 14, ny) What is the origin of life in other planets (what is the date, who thought of it and where)? There are not extraterrestrial life found (so far). Scientists are actively looking for life outside our planet, without success.
February 11, 2009komal (age 13, india) sir according to you are there ufo's?some say they have read that scientists have proved the presence of ufo's.is it really true?please help me as i'm unable to get the exact information from anywhere .please help me.i want to know whether appolo 11 crews really saw an ufo;books tell yes but i dont feel so .but they might have not creatd stories.please answer my question.i'm really waiting for the answer. UFO means Unidentified Flying Object. Therefore, any flying object that can not be identified could be called an UFO. If we work with this general deinition, yes, there have been UFOs. But if what you are looking for is if extraterrestrial life has visited us (flying in those UFOs) then the answer is different: scientists are actively looking for traces of extraterrestrial, but nothing have been found.
February 4, 2009bob (age 12, usa) is it possible that that aliens could exist in another planet? Yes, it is possible that there is life in an planet outside our solar system, and less likely in our system. Scientists are actively looking for extraterrestrial life, and for that they have enrolled the help of many many people through SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). Please, visit the website of SETI@home. So far, these efforts have not been successful.

September 18, 2008fara (age 15, malaysia) can you proof that its only us who live in universe? No, it not possible to prove one or the other. Scientists keep actively looking for extraterrestrial life, but so far these efforts have not been successful.
September 18, 2008Harithasri (age 12, India) Do aliens exists Scientists are actively looking for extraterrestrial life, and for that they have enrolled the help of many many people through SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). Please, visit the website of SETI@home. So far, these efforts have not been successful.
June 20, 2008Ashlynn (age 16, Spain) Is there any other planets in our galaxy except the ones we already know about? Could there be a possibility that one of the unknown planets have a creatures living on it like Earth has humans? Are we just as big of a mystery to them as they are to us? What galaxy DO we live in? We live in the Milky Way galaxy (Vía Láctea, in Spanish). Other planets-like objects have been found, but so far there is no indication of extraterrestrial life.
April 28, 2008janie (age 13, TN) How do we know that life on other planets need water, oxygen, and shelter if the only life we know of is on earth? We don't know! and we keep looking for these conditions because we know for sure that they could harbor life.
March 14, 2008bharati (age 12, india) is there is life on any other planet except earth No as far as we know, but we keep looking!!
January 16, 2008Ben (age 11, Burlington ON) What variables do scientists consider to figure out the odds of life being able to exist on a planet, besides the fact that life needs water and minerals and heat. Scientists look for space bodies that fulfill what is known as the "Goldilocks Theory", our web page of the same name will give you general information on this issue.
January 15, 2008Jacob (age 10, United kindom) Is there life on other planets ? So far, the efforts to find extraterrestrial life have not been successful.

September 12, 2007karabo (age 13, south africa) is it true that aliens once came around south africa or do aliens exists? Scientis are, and have been for a long time, looking for extraterrestrial life. So far there is no proof of life outside our planet.
September 12, 2007Aheli (age 12, India) Do Aliens really exist? Few days ago I read in a book some of the real incidence of an Alien. After reading it I was totally confused and excited. Scientis are, and have been for a long time, ooking for extraterrestrial life. So far there is no proof of life outside our planet.
August 21, 2007Anmol (age 12, orissa, india) Are any living objects living in other planet? In our planet, life has been found under very harsh conditions, like around hydrothermal vents or vent chimneys at the bottom of the oceans. So far, life has not been found outside our planet, but scientists keep looiking!
July 20, 2007radwa (age 15, egypt) are there any aliens in the space live on other planets? So far there have been no discovery of extraterrestrial life, but we keep looking!
July 20, 2007monica (age 13, india) is there any sign of life in other planets or galxies ? So far there have been no discovery of extraterrestrial life, but we keep looking!
July 2, 2007diego (age 11, marshall,tx) is their life on other planets So far, the efforts to find extraterrestrial life have not been successful.
January 28, 2003 Can bacteria live on Mars? At present, scientists are pretty sure that there is no life on Mars, and this includes bacteria. A few years ago a few scientists thought they had found evidence that bacteria used to live on Mars, but since then their evidence has been shown to be faulty (that is, scientists don't think that what they found was really evidence at all).

So although no one really knows for sure because we haven't done a lot to explore Mars (especially below the surface), scientists generally agree that in the cold temperatures on Mars (and without water), there is no life there. If life was found on Mars, it would have to be able to survive these extreme conditions.

September 23, 2002 Luisa (age 13, Bogota, Colombia) I have heared a theory that says that we are some kind alien experiment, is that true? why? I doubt that it's true, but no one knows for sure if there is life outside our solar system. A similar idea was proposed jokingly by Douglas Adams in the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

September 23, 2002 Denis (age 20, India) Let's say a planet is 50,000 light years away and life began on that planet 40,000 years ago and now there is a thriving population there. When we look at that planet how will we know that there is life there if we are looking at the planet as it was 50,000 years before? Your question is a good one, and the answer is that we wouldn't know that there is life there. This is one of the reasons that many people believe the search for extraterrestrial life must go on despite the fact that we don't have any evidence yet that such life exists. We might just have to wait and see!

August 30, 2002 Caroline (age 15, UK) What things are scientists doing (or have done in the past) in the search for life elesewhere in the universe? The SETI program has been the most dominant program looking for life elsewhere in the universe. They aim to explore, understand and explain the origin, nature, prevalence and distribution of life in the universe. You can even participate in the SETI@home experience!

June 8, 2000 Roni (age 15, Israel) Hello, if UFOS are real, Do they travel to our world in speed of light?? Because if they are real, they come to us from a very far place!

Well, there's no way to know, since we haven't had a chance to talk to any! According to our laws of physics, it is impossible for anything with mass to travel at the speed of light.

However, they could travel at a speed very close to the speed of light. Maybe if you meet one some day, you can ask them how they do it!

July 19, 1999 Rebecca (age 23, Utah) What types of stars would life on other planets be associated with? If we assume that life on "other planets" evolved the same way that it did on the Earth, one must think that the stars close to those planets must be similar to the stars close to Earth. The most important star, the sun, is critical to the development of life. A planet must be close enough to its sun to trap some of its heat but not too close so that it burns up. For life to develop on another planet, it must have a star similar to our sun to provide heat and energy.
A good web site to look at is at NASA.
May 26, 1999 Carla (age 13, New York, USA) Can any life, even single celled, live on Mercury? Probably not. The temperatures on Mercury can reach 800 degrees F, hot enough to melt lead! Any living cell would be fried to a crisp rather quickly. Water hasn't been found on the planet, something that is necessary to sustain life. If we ever develop the technology to protect ourselves and provide the essentials for life, maybe one day we can live on Mercury.
June 22, 1998 Mr. Curry's class (Virginia, USA) If there was intelligent life on other planets, would it look like us or something weird? Well, I would think they would look much different than us. Even people who were born and raised in different countries here on Earth look different. So a being who grew up in a totally different environment on a totally different planet, would likely look much different. I imagine they would look strange to us at first, but I bet that we'd get used to them.
January 27, 1998 Erica (age 11, Alabama, USA) Have you or any scientist found an alien body before? I checked with all of the scientists sitting around the lab here, and nope, they haven't found any!
November 26, 1997 Sarah (age 12, Colorado, USA) Have you ever received any messages from or about other people or things on other planets? Do you think we are alone, is there any proof? None of us here at Windows to the Universe has ever received any messages from anyone from another planet! But to learn more about the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe, check out question #2 under "Alive and Living" and the corresponding link to our page about the Martian meteorite, ALH 84001.
