Do the planets in the solar system crash? Is it true that Pluto andNeptune have intersecting orbits and that at one point Neptune is thefarthest planet from the sun?
Each planet in the solar system has a separate orbit; they don't cross.
That means that one planet can't naturally crash into another planet.
The only way two planets could collide is if one underwent a great
catastrophe which radically changed its orbit.
Pluto and Neptune appear to have crossing orbits, but this isn't the case.
Pluto is normally the ninth planet from the sun but it is now the eighth.
It moved closer to the Sun than Neptune in 1979 and will stay there
until 1999. But due its unique orbit, Pluto didn't cross Neptune's
Pluto's orbit around the sun is very eccentric (very elliptical). Neptune
has only a slight eccentricity (see this table), which means that
its orbit is more circular. Pluto's orbit is also inclined 17 degrees
above Neptune's orbit. This high angle and narrow perigee allows Pluto to
pass within the plane of Neptune's orbit but never to cross Neptune's actual
