Galileo visits Callisto
News story originally written on November 4, 1996
Early morning on November, 4 1996, NASA's Galileo spacecraft approached
to within 686 miles of the stark, crater-smeared Jupiter's moon Callisto.
This is the first time that Galileo has approached Callisto, and this fly-by
was by far the closest any spacecraft has ever come to Castillo.
The next fly-by is scheduled for next June. Scientists are hoping that data
from these close approaches, would help answer questions about why this
seemingly inactive moon is so different from the three active Jovian moons.
