Watch out for Flying Snowballs
News story originally written on January 21, 2000

It's a bird! No, it's a plane! No, it's a.... snowball? During the last week, Spain has been getting hit by giant snowballs. These aren't just any snowballs-- they're the size of a basketball and can weigh over 8 pounds! Scientists are currently studying the flying objects to find out what they are made of.

Approximately 15 snowballs have crashed down from the sky in the last 10 days. Some are damaging roofs, another smashed into a car, and one even hit someone in the head! Scientists say there are three possible sources of the snowballs. They are either made of frozen waste from jet airplanes, a result of some weird weather phenomenon, or stray ice from a passing comet.

Scientists already know that three of the giant balls are fakes. Two were made of salt, and one came from a restaurant freezer. Regardless of their source, keep any eye out for snowballs bigger than your head!
