Weathering Processes

There are a number of different processes which contribute to the general breakdown of rocks:

Rocks are made of minerals, and of the important mineral groups in the Bowen Series, the table to the left shows the order in which they are resistant to erosion. Granite provides a useful example for how weathering might work because granite is made of different minerals, some of which are listed in the table, and they break down at different rates, as suggested by the table.


The table shows which rocks are most easily eroded.
