Walter Hannah

I haven't always been interested in weather and climate science, but after getting my undergraduate degree in mathematics I wanted to move into a field that was easier to apply to the real world. Being in this field has allowed me to go storm chasing, launch weather balloons in the Indian Ocean and learn about all kinds of interesting phenomena. I still love abstract math problems so atmospheric science turned out to be a perfect fit for me!  

For my graduate research I am mostly interested in problems that involve many different scales, such as how clouds can influence huge weather patterns. I also work on discovering how tiny swirling motions in a cloud can influence how a cloud behaves. All of this research is meant to better understand how clouds work in the Tropics and how we can make them work better in climate models.
