The colorful clouds in this picture are Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSCs). PSCs are the only type of clouds found in the stratosphere. They are part of the cause of the ozone hole. PSCs form at very high altitudes. Sometimes they can be seen for a while before sunrise or after sunset.
