These are pictures of some dust clouds in space taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. Inside these clouds, blobs of denser gas and dust occur.

The outer layers of these blobs press down on the inner part, making it hotter and hotter. When temperatures get hotter than anything you'll ever find on Earth, a star is formed.

Part of the dense blob of gas and dust remains around the star. After a while, it may form into planets that will circle the star just like the Earth circles the sun.
