David Mastie
David Mastie is, first and foremost, a classroom Earth Science teacher: twenty-nine years of middle level teaching, three years of television teaching beamed into inner cities nationwide, and five years as a high school teacher in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Dave has been invited to sit on Educational Advisory boards for the American Geological Institute (AGI) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Presently Secretary-Treasurer of the Educational Division of the Geological Society of America (GSA).
Most recently, because of some high profile publicity over community service presentations to children, Dave has become known as "The Science Wizard." The photo here shows him appearing to do magic to make a key point. Dave wants it known that he doesn't believe in magic. "Magic tries to hide the answer, and we are about doing just the opposite. We are stripping off the disguise, peeling back the hidden layers and exposing what's there. It is these hidden truths that grab me and keep me working toward changing the face of K-12 education in this country."
