VANCOUVER
At the northern tip of Cascadia
Is a busy, bustling urban maze
Carved from Canada's Pacific coast
Beneath Garibaldi's graceful gaze
From beachfront park to mountain lodge
Mild climate oft is hers to boast
And many other features fair
Vancouver seems to have the most
Miles and miles of asphalt track
Crisscross these B.C. grounds
Freeways, highways, avenues
From seashore up majestic mounds
The visitor should not confuse
This city with the isle
Or the little town in Washington
Beneath St Helen's guile
Vancouver lives from day to day
While diverse peoples find a way
To cherish her at work and play
In health and safety, let us pray!

Like many other communities on the Pacific rim of Fire,
Vancouver sits perilously in the path of major earthquakes and volcanoes.
Is it this that gives the city its special sense of adventure and
vitality?
